The AI Tool Scorecard: How to Choose the Right Provider for Your Company

How do you cut through the AI market noise to determine which AI tool is best fit for your company?

We find that while companies may be interested in adopting AI to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their workflows, there’s a lack of certainty on what they should be looking for. A myriad of fragmented solutions create murkiness around which factors are critical to consider when comparing various tools for specific business needs.

Here are some common pitfalls:

  • Opt for point solutions that do one thing really well (e.g., sales calls transcript analysis and just that), but as company needs change, scaling use cases for additional teams may require new, disparate AI tools that overwhelm IT budget and compliance
  • Deprioritize AI security and governance, and risk high-profile security breaches
  • Become locked in to a single LLM provider, which pose performance, security, and financial risks

So, what should you consider, and what do insiders in the industry know that you should probably know?

Introducing: the AI Tool Scorecard. We’ve listed out the top factors to consider when exploring AI vendors and guide you in making confident, informed decisions. Go ahead, use this on all the providers you know. Not to brag, but we think we’d do quite well :)

1. Performance and Quality

Optimize for precision and thoroughness. Average responses may be correct but not sufficiently detailed, largely due to a lack of context that the LLM has on your business, customers, brand voice, etc. High quality responses that are both accurate and comprehensive require deep contextual understanding and adaptability through sophisticated search features and data integration capabilities. Look for solutions that can navigate extensive data repositories and cite pertinent sources over basic systems that rely on single-file searches.

2. User Experience

To truly be able to be deployed across the company, ask if your least technical user would be able to use this tool. Look for platforms that offer no-code customization capabilities, enabling individuals across all departments to benefit, regardless of their technical background. At the same time, ensure that there are advanced configuration options for those who need them (looking at you, my developer friends!).

3. Security and Governance

Focus on selecting providers that implement stringent access controls and adhere to industry compliance standards. Opt for those that offer detailed audit logs and support zero data retention policies, safeguarding your organization's sensitive information and ensuring transparency in all interactions.

4. Set up and Support

Choose solutions with flexible deployment options that accommodate both on-premises and cloud infrastructures, and easily integrate with your existing tools and platforms. Ensure the provider offers robust support to facilitate a smooth onboarding process and enable effortless customization, enhancing productivity with minimal disruption.
